Mar Menor

Mar Menor – Spanish for ‘little sea’ is a Spanish paradise that we love. This section of Spain, in which our villa is located, is a fantastic epicentre of life and activity – which is jam-packed with activities, views and opportunities to relax.

Mar Menor is a large saltwater lagoon through which it is possible to do all the water-sports of your imagination: perfect for thrill-seekers and beach-goers alike.

Our lovely villa is just a 5 minute walk from the beach – the coastal strip which brings thousands of visitors to Mar Menor each year.

As the largest lagoon in Europe, it has a surface area of 170m2 and with an average depth of 3.5m is very safe for swimming.

The clear water is full of minerals, and it has a 50% salt concentration which is perfect for rheumatic and cardiovascular treatments.

The local tourist page for Mar Menor has a lot of information on what to do in the local area, including restaurants and guided trips you may well find interesting. Tripadvisor also has a fantastic selection of reviewed activities.

Coastal Activities

The Mar Menor area is a highlight of the Iberian Peninsula coast – and it’d be a shame to come to this fabulous area without viewing the fantastic coastal sights that it has to offer.

Boat trips

With 73km of coastal paradise, one of the best ways to view this fantastic scenery is through a boat trip.

Whether by kayak, sailing boat or an adrenaline-packed trip on a speedboat, there is something for everyone. We highly recommend going to one of the many local watersport centres and trying out everything that this coastal town has to offer!

The islands of Mar Menor

Within Mar Menor are five Islands, three of which are large. All the islands have volcanic roots and they are perfectly visible from a distance – but best seen from the sea.

These volcanic islands add depth and wonder to the gorgeous coastline, and it can be hard to miss their peaks rising into the distant skyline.

Bays and Beaches

The area in which the Villa is located – the “Mar de Cristal” is Spanish for “The Crystal Sea” – and for good reason. This fantastic coastline is a jewel on the crown of Spain’s southern coast.

With coastlines for sunbathing, volleyball on the beach or cocktails by the sea there is something for everyone in this fantastic area.

The area is truly the water-sports capital of the Iberian Coast – and if you have an eye for adventure, this region is a must-visit.
